Outpatient Antibiotic Infusion Services

OPAT Program

LIDC's Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy program, called OPAT for short, offers an alternative to home health IV antibiotic services. It is directly managed by our own physicians and staff, providing streamlined access to treatment in a closely monitored, patient friendly format.  OPAT through Lexington Infectious Disease Consultants has provided care for over 5,000 patients since its launch.  Our retrospective questionnaires indicate very high satisfaction rates among this group of patients and the physicians in our practice have reported better patient outcomes when compared to more traditional methods of care (coordination among a physician, Home Health Agency, and Home Infusion Company). Our staff of registered nurses, experienced in antibiotic infusion therapy and line maintenance, are on call for OPAT patients to reach 24 hours a day.  In addition, these nurses as well as physicians are available to see OPAT patients in our office 7 days a week in the event that a complication arises.
Hospital Avoidance

Hospital Avoidance Program

Lexington Infectious Disease Consultants (LIDC) has developed a Hospital Avoidance Program to help keep costs down while providing more streamlined care for acute infections.  This initiative will allow patients to receive care in an outpatient setting that previously was only available upon admission to the hospital.  Through utilization of our outpatient infusion services, LIDC can help to avoid such admissions while providing exceptional, convenient, cost effective care to patients.

Because LIDC is open 365 days a year, we can offer rapid response evaluations for acute infections such as cellulitis, abscess, osteomyelitis, urinary tract infections, and more.  Rather than sending these acute infections to the ER, physicians may instead send patients to our outpatient clinic for prompt evaluation.

LIDC maintains an expert PICC placement team and a core of experienced infusion nurses.  To ensure optimal communication and minimal complications, our infusion nurses are on call to patients 24 hours a day.  Our providers work closely with referring physicians and will keep them informed of patient status and treatment plan every step of the way.

Set up a PICC

Expert PICC Placement Services

Initiated in 1992, this service employs four full-time PICC Nurses solely dedicated to placing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters for  use in infusion therapy at seven area facilities. LIDC PICC nurses have placed more than 60,000 PICC lines since the start of our PICC program and hold a very high success rate. Our organization has made the commitment to monitor the program for quality and excellence.
